We engineered probiotic E. coli Nissle 1917 with a p‑cresol sensor (from Aromatoleum aromaticum) that activates GFP fluorescence, converting chemical cues into real‑time visible signals. Beyond detection, our engineered strain is designed to release therapeutic nanobodies on demand to neutralize C. difficile toxins, helping restore microbiota balance.
