<description>Title: Friskoli — Beyond Diffusion, Toward Active Encounter Description: Friskoli | SZU-SIAT China | iGEM 2026 In space, resource recycling is essential for sustainable life. Yet in low-convection environments, diffusion can limit the encounters between microbes and solid substrates. Friskoli explores a synthetic biology approach to improving local interactions between bacteria and substrates. By combining cellobiose-responsive PTS chemotaxis with enzyme surface display, we aim to bring microbes closer to their substrates and enhance local contact. In this presentation, we share our engineering journey, including chromosomal promoter engineering, cellobiose utilization experiments, microfluidic measurements, computational modeling, and software development. We also explore how Human Practices, science education, and international collaboration shaped our project. From experimental successes to unresolved challenges, Friskoli documents our progress toward a more efficient biological recycling system for future space habitats. Beyond Diffusion.
