UManitoba: Building the Evara Probiotic: Protein Conjugation to L. crispatus (2026)

This animation illustrates the first stage of Evara, our proposed probiotic-based approach to preventing recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). The video begins by showing Lactobacillus crispatus, a beneficial bacterium naturally found in the vaginal microbiome. It then introduces specially designed inhibitor proteins and demonstrates how these proteins are attached to the surface of the bacteria through conjugation. The resulting inhibitor-conjugated Lactobacillus crispatus is designed to help prevent harmful bacteria from attaching to host tissues, while supporting the restoration of a healthy vaginal microbiome. This animation provides a simplified visual explanation of how Evara incorporates protective inhibitor proteins into its probiotic-based prevention strategy.
