<description>Title: Engineering Red Blood Cell Membranes for Targeted Mitochondrial Delivery Description: Mitochondrial therapy holds great potential for treating mitochondrial and neurodegenerative diseases, but effective delivery remains a major challenge. Our project develops an engineered red blood cell membrane-based delivery platform designed to provide a biocompatible, stable, and targeted solution for mitochondrial transport. By combining natural red blood cell membranes with artificial lipid hybridization, we reinforce membrane stability and improve cargo encapsulation. Surface targeting modifications further enable more precise delivery to damaged tissues. Using mitochondria as a model cargo, we demonstrate the potential of this engineered membrane system for efficient and stable encapsulation and cellular delivery. Beyond mitochondria, this platform has the potential to carry a wide range of therapeutic cargos, including proteins, small-molecule drugs, nucleic acids, organelles, and nanoparticles, providing a versatile foundation for future biomedical delivery applications.
