BITE (Biosensing for Instant, Targeted Pathogen Evaluation) is a CRISPR-Cas12a biosensor designed to detect Salmonella in food without the need for a laboratory or thermocycler. Magnetic beads capture the target invA DNA, Cas12a trans-cleavage releases a G-quadruplex reporter, and the resulting DNAzyme turns the solution vivid blue, which means the food is contaminated.
