Title: BioShield: Tackling Asbestos with Synthetic Biology Description: BioShield studies how synthetic biology could support auxiliary surface treatment of asbestos-related materials in closed, controlled systems. Our work covers three areas: oxalic-acid production, metal-ion response and chelation, and mussel-foot-protein materials. We refined the CsoR/ZupT circuits through several rounds of design and testing. In copper-response comparisons, the ZupT-containing design produced a higher reporter signal than the initial NR circuit. We also carried out experiments with magnesium-silicate proxy materials and revised the MgFP construct based on observations from protein-material experiments. The video also introduces our Human Practices, education activities, particle-capture device design and ideas for commercial applications. We share part designs, measurement methods and problems encountered during experiments for future iGEM teams to learn from. Wiki | Official Page
