Title: Cadture Description: Project Cadture (Cadmium Capture) combines synthetic biology, computational modeling, and community engagement to tackle cadmium pollution. We engineered Escherichia coli using a GFP-based sensor and cytoplasmic metallothioneins (MTs) to detect and absorb bioavailable cadmium, demonstrating reduced GFP signal as cadmium was successfully sequestered. In our dry lab, mathematical modeling optimized expression dynamics and predicted heavy-metal uptake rates for our system design. Complementing our experimental work, human practices integrated feedback from environmental experts and local stakeholders to ensure safety, feasibility, and real-world applicability. Additionally, our educational outreach initiatives raised public awareness about heavy-metal contamination and promoted STEM engagement through interactive workshops and educational materials. Together, Project Cadture provides a scalable, cost-effective biological solution for environmental remediation while bridging science and society. Wiki | Official Page
