<description>Title: PlantGuard: Based on a Synthetic Biology Dual-Module System for Coordinated Drought Management in Plants Description: Global climate change has led to an increase in both the frequency and intensity of drought disasters, posing a serious threat to agricultural production and urban horticulture. In this study, we designed and constructed a dual-module synergistic drought management system for plants, named “PlantGuard.” This system consists of drought-alert gel beads and soil water-retaining gel beads. The drought-alert module employs a hyperosmotic response promoter to drive the expression of an indigo synthesis gene cluster (tnaA-ndoI), enabling in situ, real-time, and visual early warning of drought events. The soil water-retention module continuously secretes microcrystalline cellulose and hyaluronic acid into the soil, thereby enhancing soil water-holding capacity and reducing water evaporation. We have innovatively applied these two types of beads in a synergistic manner: the alarm beads provide precise signals for watering, while the water-retention beads delay the onset of drought at its source.
