Title: Expelliodor: A Protein Trio for Targeted Deodorization [English] Description: Axillary odor is a common concern influenced by genetic variations. People with certain variants of ABCC11 gene express a transporter that carries the odor precursor into the axilla, where Staphylococcus hominis metabolizes this odorless precursor Cys-Gly-3M3SH to release 3M3SH, the major contributor to axillary odor. To reduce precursor availability of uptake without broadly supressing skin microbiota, we developed three complementary solutions: a de novo small-molecule-binding protein to sequester the precursor, a de novo protein-binding protein designed to inhibit conformational changes in the transporter PepTSh, and an enzyme to modify the precursor and reduce its recognition by the transporter. Beyond the engineering, Human Practices led us to recognize that underarm odor is a natural physiological variation, yet often burdened by social stigma. While science can offer ways to manage it, we believe the decision should remain a matter of personal choice, rather than be dictated by social expectations. Wiki | Official Page
