        <description>Title: DunaTerp Description: This video presents the DunaTerp synthetic biology project. Targeting the industry pain points of low yield and high cost of natural terpenoid food ingredients, as well as food safety concerns over chemically synthesized alternatives, the project adopts Dunaliella salina — a microalga with high natural β-carotene content and a complete endogenous MEP pathway — as the engineering chassis. It redirects metabolic flux and enhances precursor supply by introducing CPP transcription factors, and develops two product pipelines for astaxanthin and apocarotenoids accordingly, enabling the production of high-value food ingredients including astaxanthin, β-ionone, crocetin and β-citraurin. Meanwhile, a salt-dependent mazE-mazF suicide switch is designed to mitigate biosafety risks. The ultimate goal is to build a food-grade standardized terpenoid synthesis platform and achieve more natural, cleaner and sustainable food ingredient production powered by photobioreactors.
