Title: BioWipe — A Living Water-Free Scalp Care System Description: For many of us, freshly washed hair does not stay fresh for long. Oiliness, itching, and visible flakes can return quickly — often driven by an overgrowth of Malassezia, a fungus naturally present on the scalp. Around fifty percent of adults experience dandruff, yet washing again is not always practical during work, travel, exercise, hospitalization, or a busy day. BioWipe is our answer: a portable, rinse-free scalp-care wipe that lets users part the hair and directly reach the areas that need care — without wetting the entire head. Press to activate the separate dry and wet chambers, wrap the wipe around a finger, and it‘s ready for precise, localized application. But convenience is only part of the solution. Our goal is not to eliminate Malassezia completely — it’s naturally present on a healthy scalp. Instead, we want to control excessive growth and restore balance. Our engineered bacteria sense long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs) in the environment. When the LCFA level reaches a defined threshold, the system switches on: LCFAs enter through FadL and are converted into fatty acyl-CoA, releasing FadR-mediated repression and activating the downstream circuit. This produces chitinase, chitosanase, and Penetratin peptide, which work together to disrupt excessive Malassezia. Beyond scalp regulation, our K31-PepG module supports damaged hair through internal repair and structural reinforcement. For biosafety, the bacteria carry a suicide switch triggered when xylose decreases and washing disperses the cells — ensuring self-elimination without survival signals. BioWipe combines responsive scalp regulation, hair repair, and biosafety in one portable, rinse-free system for care between washes. Wiki | Official Page
