<description>Title: Waste-to-watt: Engineering PrbA for Enhanced Food Waste Bioenergy Production Description: While industrial anaerobic digestion converts tonnes of global food waste into renewable bioenergy, a critical hidden bottleneck lowers efficiency: synthetic preservatives like parabens accumulate in waste streams, paralyze functional microbes. So we, HKSSC introduces Waste-to-Watt, a targeted solution designed to overcome this industrial crisis. By engineering E. coli to express the paraben-degrading enzyme prbA, our system neutralizes chemical inhibitors to accelerate microbial digestion. Grounded in rigorous engineering design, modeling, and wet-lab validation, Waste-to-Watt bridges molecular innovation with municipal green infrastructure, maximizing renewable energy yields and establishing scalable blueprint for sustainable global waste valorization. We have charactereized 16 new parts, including 14 new basic parts and 2 new composite parts. Furthermore, through our structured iCycle Integrated Human Practices framework and extensive community outreach in all age groups, including school workshops, interactive games, and public surveys, we engaged diverse stakeholders to guide project optimization while inspiring the next generation of synthetic biologists.
