        <description>Title: CHIRALYS: Through the mirror, the future of aptamers Description: Our team iGEM Toulouse has designed next-generation DNA aptamers to bind proteins, pathogens or cancer cells with unprecedented stability. Current aptamers built from “right-handed” nucleotides, the natural chirality found in biology, are prone to degradation in the human body and in a physiological environment. We propose to create mirror-image, “left-handed” aptamers that will evade natural degradation mechanisms, enhancing their long-term binding capabilities. We devised experimental and in silico strategies to design, produce, and characterize mirror aptamers targeting peptides and proteins.
