<description>Title: T.I.D.E - Targeted Interception and Degradaiton of Endocrine Disruptors Description: BPA and its alternatives are ubiquitous chemical pollutants that can dysregulate endocrine systems in humans and animals, causing widespread health issues through environmental exposure. Our project, TIDE, aimed to develop an integrated biosensor and bioremediation platform consisting of a 3-plasmid architecture that can be easily modulated to target both BPA and BPA alternatives. Our dry lab worked to redesign an Estrogen Receptor to improve binding to BPA and BPA alternatives, while our wet lab worked in parallel to establish a working platform for downstream testing of the developed receptor. As part of the project, we focused on safety and security to improve the real-world application of TIDE. A major focus of the work we did was raising awareness and educating the public about endocrine-disrupting pollutants, sustainable development, and how biotechnological solutions can tie into both.
