Title: Invisible Scars | From Puerto Rico to a Global Challenge Description: What begins on the shores of Puerto Rico leads to a challenge that reaches far beyond our island. We are iGEM RUM-UPRM, representing the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. Through synthetic biology, research, and teamwork, our team is working to address the environmental impact of RDX contamination while contributing to a problem that affects communities around the world. Our approach focuses on bioremediation, using engineered biological systems equipped with RDX-degrading enzymes to break down this persistent explosive contaminant into less harmful compounds. By combining synthetic biology with our Serial Bioreactor System, we aim to develop a more sustainable way to tackle RDX pollution. From Puerto Rico, to the global stage, to our laboratory at UPRM, this is a glimpse into the motivation and science behind our team. We are proud to bring Puerto Rican innovation, creativity, and determination to the 2026 iGEM Grand Jamboree. Wiki | Official Page
