        <description>Title: AiyUReady: A Methanol-Based Biosensor for Aiyu Ripeness and Gel Quality Description: For Aiyu farmers, knowing when a fruit is ready to harvest is not always as simple as it looks. Harvest decisions currently rely heavily on experience and visual judgment, even though fruits at different stages of maturity can look very similar. Our project, Aiy-U-Ready, explores the use of methanol as an indicator of Aiyu’s gel-forming potential. We are developing an engineered biosensor that detects methanol and produces a visible signal, with the goal of providing farmers with a more objective reference for harvest decisions. In this video, we introduce the story behind Aiyu, the challenges faced by local farmers, and how our team is using synthetic biology to approach a problem rooted in Taiwan.
