Title: What is S.H.I.H.A.B. about? Description: What if astronauts could produce the medicines they need... when they need them? Long-duration space missions make healthcare challenging: medicines can degrade, resupply from Earth can take months, and carrying every possible treatment adds mass and cost. S.H.I.H.A.B. (Synthetic Hosts for In-situ Healthcare and Autonomous Biomanufacturing) aims to address this by combining resilient engineered microorganisms with a compact bioreactor to produce therapeutic proteins on demand in space. While our team is currently focused on medicines, this approach could eventually be expanded to produce nutrients and other essential biological products, helping reduce dependence on Earth. With S.H.I.H.A.B., we’re working toward a future where astronauts have greater medical autonomy... wherever exploration takes them! Wiki | Official Page
