Title: Air2protein Description: Air2Protein is a modular electro-biocatalytic platform that converts Martian atmospheric resources into microbial protein and functional nutrition precursors. Since the Martian atmosphere is rich in CO₂ and contains exploitable N₂, we first transform CO₂ into a concentrated formate/formic acid feedstock through electrocatalysis, while establishing ammonia as a controlled nitrogen input and evaluating N₂-to-NH₃ conversion as a long-term nitrogen-supply module. These inputs are then integrated with an engineered E. coli chassis carrying the reductive glycine pathway, enabling formate-derived one-carbon units to enter central metabolism and support single-cell protein accumulation. By further redirecting carbon flux toward amino acid biosynthesis and installing a β-alanine branch for L-carnosine production, Air2Protein demonstrates a programmable route from atmospheric gases to both basic biomass and functional nutritional ingredients. Designed for Mars but relevant to Earth, this system proposes a scalable, closed-loop strategy for food production in extreme, resource-limited environments. Wiki | Official Page
