<description>Title: Cozyme (Team Düsseldorf) Description: Our project focuses on the sustainable valorization of lignocellulosic biowaste. While this type of biomass is widely used, it is often directed toward low-value or inefficient processes, despite its potential as a renewable source of valuable chemical building blocks. With Cozyme, we aim to develop a modular and adaptable platform based on a yeast co-culture system, in which one strain is engineered for biomass degradation and another for the production of target compounds. This division of labor allows for more efficient processing and flexible adaptation to different waste streams and desired products, particularly for applications in the food and cosmetics industries. Our long-term goal is to create a scalable toolkit that enables the transformation of diverse biowaste inputs into high-value, sustainable products, contributing to a circular bioeconomy.
