Title: BeeTrix Description: Introducing: BeeTrix, a Self‑Sustaining Biocontrol System Against Varroa Mites. The idea starts with lupulone, a compound from hops fruit commonly used as a beer addition. Hop beta acids are already sold as a hive treatment, and they are reported to kill mites while staying harmless to bees. However, lupulone breaks down quickly, so it has to be applied again and again. Instead of applying lupulone, we engineer a bacterium, Pseudomonas putida, to make it. After introduction into the hive, the bacteria are designed to spread through feeding and grooming and keep producing lupulone right where mites attach. This eliminates the need for constant reapplication. BeeTrix has two parts: the engineered bacteria and BeeGuard, a monitor that watches over them. Wiki | Official Page
