LINKS-UNION 2026 is designing a Smart Hydrogel for Integrated Enamel &amp; Lesion Defence -- SHIELD. Our pH-responsive system detects changes in the oral environment and releases antimicrobial peptides to combat bacterial growth while promoting enamel remineralization. By combining synthetic biology with smart material design, we aim to shift orthodontic care from passive protection to proactive, integrated defence -- protecting enamel while addressing the source of damage.
