Title: Soil Shield Description: Wildfires leave behind polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), toxic, carcinogenic pollutants that bind tightly to soil and persist for decades. Soil Shield engineers Pseudomonas putida KT2440 to degrade salicylate, a key intermediate in naphthalene breakdown, while producing hydroxyectoine to survive the heat and desiccation of post-wildfire conditions. A ccdA/ccdB kill switch tied to salicylate ensures the strain dies once its work is done. The system was validated in F.L.A.R.E., a custom simulation chamber, and paired with a web app that predicts where deployment would have the greatest impact. Wiki | Official Page
