Title: One Direction Description: What if we could control not only what cells do, but also how they are oriented and connected? Synthetic biology has enabled us to engineer cells with diverse functions. However, assembling these cells into precisely organized multicellular systems remains a major challenge. Our project, One Direction, aims to establish a new foundation for synthetic multicellular engineering by controlling cell polarity and directional cell-to-cell adhesion. Using E.coli, we seek to localize different adhesion molecules at opposite cell poles, enabling cells to connect in defined orientations and sequences. By integrating experimental engineering, quantitative measurements, and mathematical modeling, we explore the potential to construct ordered cellular structures. This technology could open new possibilities for combining engineered biological modules into functional multicellular systems. One Direction is a foundational advance toward programmable multicellular assembly. Wiki | Official Page
