Title: BrewXOS: Upcycling Brewery Waste into Functional Prebiotic AXOS Description: Global beer production generates massive volumes of nutrient-rich brewer’s spent grain annually. Most byproducts are only low-value livestock feed or directly discarded, causing resource waste. Our project BrewXOS targets arabinoxylan locked in spent grain. We engineer Bacillus subtilis to co-express three synergistic enzymes Xyn2, Xyn11A and Abf62A, which fully degrade arabinoxylan into arabinoxylan-oligosaccharides (AXOS). AXOS acts as high-performance prebiotics to nourish intestinal probiotics and improve gut health. We design a modular microbial platform for on-site brewery waste treatment, transforming industrial residues into high-value functional food additives. BrewXOS realizes full waste valorization and establishes a sustainable circular bioeconomy model for brewing industry. Official Page
