Title: AquaShield Description: How can we make water monitoring more accessible and reliable? AQUA SHIELD, Benenden’s iGEM 2026 project, brings together drone engineering and synthetic biology to explore new approaches to heavy-metal detection. Our Dry Lab develops a drone-based water sampling platform for locations that are difficult to access, while our Wet Lab engineers a mercury-responsive biosensor and evaluates AI-selected MerR mutations to improve its performance. Beyond the laboratory, our Human Practices work connects field observations with feedback from experts and stakeholders to guide our project’s development. Through interactive educational activities, we engage students and the wider community in conversations about synthetic biology, water pollution, and responsible innovation. This presentation shares our progress, lessons learned, and next step: using experimental data to improve AI predictions and guide future engineering cycles. Wiki | Official Page
