<description>Title: Biosynthesis of Lactosylarchaeol-Based Vaccine Adjuvants in E. coli Description: We are SUSTechOcean, an iGEM 2026 team from Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), China. In this video, we introduce our project, “The Biosynthesis of Lactosylarchaeol-Based Vaccine Adjuvants in E. coli,” which explores a synthetic biology approach to developing a more scalable and potentially sustainable production platform for archaeal lipid-based vaccine adjuvants. Our project focuses on the biosynthesis of archaeol and its glycosylated derivatives in Escherichia coli, aiming to establish a foundation for the future production of sulfated lactosyl archaeol (SLA), a promising component of archaeosome-based vaccine adjuvants. Through an integrated approach combining Wet Lab experiments, Dry Lab computational analysis, microfluidic hardware design, and Human Practices, we investigate key challenges in lipid biosynthesis, enzyme engineering, downstream processing, and sustainable vaccine manufacturing. This video presents our project design, experimental progress, computational findings, hardware development, and broader considerations regarding public health, education, and environmental sustainability.
