Title: MelanoShield Description: The global agricultural pest issue causes massive crop losses and threatens food security. Traditional chemical pesticides are harmful to the environment and lead to pesticide residue on human food. Our project, MelanoShield, aims to create a more sustainable alternative using synthetic biology. We engineered Escherichia coli to produce the insecticidal protein from both Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) and melanin, which acts as a natural UV shield, protecting the biopesticide from sunlight degradation to enhance its effectiveness. To further strengthen the efficacy and dissemination of our solution, we also developed a series of intelligent hardware, equipped with big data models and physical structures to be used in the field. These tools support better communication and implementation of our project, improving overall pest control efficiency, reducing cost, and promoting eco-friendly practices. Through this project, we hope to demonstrate how synthetic biology and engineering can work together to address real-world ecological challenges. Wiki | Official Page
