ECUST: 1L Tank Filling VOF Simulation — Symmetry Plane View (2026)

Transient VOF (Volume of Fluid) multiphase simulation of the 1 L tank filling process of the SmartVac Mini workstation, performed in ANSYS Fluent. This video shows the water volume fraction on the central symmetry plane of the tank. The color scale ranges from 0 (blue, air) to 1 (red, water): The liquid enters vertically through the top-center inlet as a free-falling jet., The jet reaches the tank bottom and starts to pool, with splashing and air entrainment visible at the early stage., The free surface then rises steadily, while the side nozzle remains near/above the liquid level throughout the simulated period., The simulation evaluates filling dynamics, jet impact, free-surface stability and splashing/air-entrainment risks, and guides the design of the inlet and submerged return tube of the workstation's fluid system. https://2026.igem.wiki/ecust
