<description>Title: FINS: Fish Intersex Neutralization Strategy by IISER Kolkata Description: Estrogens from sewage pass through conventional wastewater treatment plants untreated. Even at trace concentrations they disrupt fish hormone systems, cause intersex traits in males, and can collapse populations, and India has no routine way to detect them. FINS is our engineered bacterial system that both senses estrogen in water and breaks it down. This 15-minute presentation walks through our full project: the biosensor circuit, the laccase-based degradation module, our modelling and software work, and the safety and delivery design for real-world deployment.
