<description>Title: you Nailed it! : Redefine Nails With Bio-Based Materials Description: The global nail art market is projected to reach 4.034 billion USD by 2034. Traditional nail products cause health risks and plastic pollution. Our team developed a synthetic biology system with three modules: biodegradable artificial nail tips, biological adhesive, and nail polishes fabricated by fluorescent protein and chromoprotein. We mutated gfasPurple chromoprotein, expressed it in pET-28α, and verified its good thermostability. We also screened more proteins for diverse colours. Our nail patches use hydroxyapatite-reinforced alginate crosslinked by calcium chloride. The bio-glue combines mussel foot proteins and spider silk proteins. This fully biodegradable alternative protects users and reduces environmental burdens, proving synthetic biology enables safe, high-performance sustainable cosmetics.
