<description>Title: 茶(Sa)kure-it-all Description: As global demand for plant-derived products continues to rise, traditional extraction methods are placing increasing pressure on already vulnerable natural resources. Within Japan, this raises concerns regarding tea supply and sustainable sakura cultivation. While biosynthetic production in yeast offers a promising alternative, current methods remain limited by inefficiency, product build-up inside cells, and cellular stress. This reduces yields and limits large-scale production. Project 茶(Sa)kure-it-all addresses these challenges by engineering yeast to produce the therapeutic compounds sakuranetin, quercetin, L-theanine, and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) through a dual-strain production model with biosensor flux control, active transport engineering, and optimized growth conditions. These approaches aim to improve production efficiency by creating a scalable and sustainable alternative to plant extraction. By providing a reliable source of bioactive compounds with anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, our system has the potential to support the needs of Japan's growing elderly population while protecting sakura and tea resources.
