Title: Dunelock: Small enough to spray. Strong enough to stay. Description: Sandy deserts, such as the Arabian Desert, are historically, culturally, and economically significant. However, for cities rising around them, sandy deserts are a hub for loose sediments that are continuously being re-suspended by winds, which then travel short and far distances, degrading air quality, decreasing visibility, coating solar panels, and jeopardizing daily life — with 800 million people affected globally. Dunelock focuses on sand stabilization by engineering a microbially-produced adhesive material. Gene overexpression of γ-PGA is used to enhance the stickiness of biofilms while exogenous gene expression of Carbonic Anhydrase is used to precipitate stabilizing crystals between sand grains, all whilst sequestering carbon dioxide and avoiding toxic gas release. With clearer air, Dunelock is a step towards a healthier outdoors. Wiki | Official Page
