<description>Title: BIFROST Description: BiFROST is an iGEM IIT Bombay project focused on developing sustainable, bio-based dielectric coolants for immersion cooling in AI data centres. As the demand for computational power increases, conventional cooling fluids raise concerns regarding environmental impact and sustainability. Our project explores methyl myristate, a fatty acid methyl ester, as a potential alternative. We aim to engineer Saccharomyces cerevisiae to shift its fatty acid profile towards shorter-chain fatty acids, particularly C14, by modifying the native fatty acid synthase pathway. Our approach combines computational modelling, protein structure analysis and genetic engineering to design and evaluate targeted modifications. We introduced a mutation in the yeast FAS2 gene and validated the construct using molecular biology techniques. Preliminary GC–MS analysis revealed a peak tentatively assigned to C14 in the engineered mutant but not in the wild-type control, suggesting a possible shift in fatty acid composition that requires further validation. Through synthetic biology, experimental analysis and a sustainability-focused approach, BiFROST aims to lay the groundwork for developing bio-based cooling fluids for next-generation data centres.
