<description>Title: Silicon Shield: A synthetic biology platform that enhances crop stress resistance using plant silicon transporters Description: The starting point for the SiShield project was not to modify crops directly, but rather to address a more fundamental question: could the silicon transport mechanism found in rice function effectively in a different plant species? To answer this, we selected Nicotiana benthamiana (a species of wild tobacco) as a chassis for heterologous validation. Known for its rapid growth and well-established transformation system, it is one of the most frequently used model organisms in plant synthetic biology, allowing us to verify the viability of these genetic components within a short timeframe.
