Conventional analytical methods are often costly and require complex procedures, limiting rapid on-site assessment. Meanwhile, existing remediation strategies usually require separate processes for pollution evaluation and treatment. Our iGEM team developed PNPeeker, an engineered microbial platform composed of two complementary modules: a biosensing module for PNP detection and a biodegradation module for pollutant removal. The biosensor recognises PNP signals and generates measurable outputs for contamination assessment. Based on the detection results, the biodegradation module converts PNP into less toxic downstream metabolites through microbial metabolism. By connecting biological detection with targeted remediation, PNPeeker provides a streamlined workflow for monitoring and addressing PNP contamination. This affordable and sustainable biological platform has the potential to support environmental researchers and communities in developing more efficient approaches for polluted soil management.
