        <description>Title: Furflouris: Engineering Bio-based Allantoin for Companion Animals Description: Over the past two decades, rapid urbanization has driven a significant increase in pet ownership, making companion animal health an increasing concern. Among various health challenges, dermatological disorders are among the most common issues faced by pet owners. Unlike humans, pets cannot directly communicate discomfort and often respond through excessive licking and grooming. However, many skin problems remain hidden beneath dense fur, and excessive grooming may further damage the skin barrier, creating a cycle of irritation, licking, and mechanical injury. To address this challenge, PROFUTURE-China developed a synthetic biology approach to produce allantoin, a bioactive compound widely used in dermatological care for its skin-protective and tissue-repair properties, through engineered E. coli.
