<description>Title: E. coli Cell Factory for Itaconic Acid Biosynthesis from Ethylene Glycol Description: Our project builds a circular up-cycling route for waste PET plastics: we engineer E. coli with a reconstructed Gcl pathway to assimilate ethylene glycol released by PETase, and reroute metabolic carbon flux toward itaconic acid biosynthesis. The itaconic acid is then converted into dimethyl itaconate via green enzymatic esterification, serving as a bio-based monomer for photocuring 3D-printing resin. This closes the loop from waste PET degradation to 3D-printable materials. Supported by dry-lab modeling, a smart cultivation platform, and Human Practices-driven feedback, our solution tackles plastic pollution while delivering a practical, value-added product.
