        <description>Title: NanoBrew transforms beer waste into high-value nanocellulose Description: Brewers’ spent grain is a major waste stream from the brewing industry. It is primarily sold as low-value animal feed or sent to landfill, where it contributes significant carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. Inside brewers' spent grain is nanocellulose, an exciting natural material which can be used to make a range of polymers and fibres. This means that nanocellulose has uses in a wide range of industries, including biomedicine, electronics, and packaging. NanoBrew is developing a sustainable, enzyme orientated approach to break down brewers' spent grain and access nanocellulose. Our experimental data will be used to assess the economic and sustainable feasibility of up-scaling this process into a one-pot bioreactor. We hope to divert brewers' spent grain from landfill and provide alternative methods of nanocellulose production that address current production issues.
