Title: Dosed by the Cycle - Hormone-responsive ADHD medication release Description: Women with ADHD often find their medication works less well at some points in their menstrual cycle than others. Estrogen and progesterone shape how the brain handles dopamine, so symptoms shift across the month while the daily dose stays flat. The result is too much medicine in one phase and too little in another. Lutealine, the 2026 iGEM team at the University of Copenhagen, is not designing a new ADHD drug. We are designing a new way to release the ones that already work. A capsule carries the drug past the stomach into the small intestine, inside a polymersome that shields it from gut proteases. Inside, a protease split in two sits tethered beside the drug, each half carrying a progesterone sensor. Rising progesterone draws the halves together, the enzyme reassembles, and the drug is cut free - so the dose follows the cycle. Wiki | Official Page
