        <description>Title: Smelling Mould Before It Spreads: A Fly Receptor Biosensor for Crop Storage Description: Mould is the difference between a harvest and a loss. Traditional sensors drift, mycotoxin tests are slow, and by the time mould is visible, the crop is already compromised. Our iGEM project repurposes fly odorant receptors, which senses the compound mould releases, and expresses them in human cell lines to build a biological sensor far more sensitive than conventional electronic noses. The result is a compact, portable test that runs directly where crops like coffee are stored, giving farmers and warehouses an early, accurate warning before mould spreads.
