<description>Title: "AEGIS: Protecting Sewage-Contaminated Water" Description: Sewage bacteria, such as E. coli, threaten waterways and can harm people, animals, and natural ecosystems, while traditional cleanup methods are insufficient. AEGIS addresses this problem by using a modified bacterium, S. meliloti, to produce two highly specific toxins, Colicin E8 and Microcin H47, that target E. coli while minimizing off-target effects. Deployed in specialized devices called boxcins, when S. meliloti detects a signal associated with E. coli, they produce the E. coli-targeting toxins, utimately protecting waterways.
