<description>Title: Cracking the Code of Coffee Wastewater — Engineered Microflora "Dismantle" Organic Pollution Description: Yunnan is China's primary coffee-producing region. However, the direct discharge of untreated coffee wastewater from small-scale processing facilities has led to severe water pollution and ecological damage. Conventional treatment methods are limited by high costs, high energy consumption, and low removal efficiency, which hinder their practical application. To address these challenges, this project adopts a synthetic biology approach to construct three engineered yeast strains with a coordinated division of labor, each designed to target and degrade specific components of coffee wastewater—pectin, sugars, and organic acids, respectively. These strains will be co-immobilized using a sodium alginate-chitosan matrix to achieve efficient and stable degradation performance. Additionally, a kill switch will be introduced to ensure biosafety by preventing environmental release. Collectively, this work aims to provide a safe, efficient, and low-cost synthetic biology-based solution for the treatment of high-strength acidic organic wastewater, offering significant scientific value for ecological protection.
