        <description>Title: ENCORE - "More Than Bread: A Modular Nanocompartment Toolkit for Yeast" Description: Humans and yeast have shared a silent contract for millenia: we keep it warm and feed it sugar and in return, fermentation converts carbohydrates into bread, beer and wine. Yet most of the yeast's molecular potential remains untapped. ENCORE (Engineered Nanocompartments for Capture, Optimization and Reactor Engineering) is the 2026 project of the first ever iGEM Team from KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology). We ask what happens when humans and yeast work with each other instead of just alongside each other. Our answer is a standardized, Golden Gate-based toolKIT that allows the expression of encapsulins - self-assembling protein cages from bacteria - in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, so that new applications no longer require a redesign from scratch. We demonstrate this with two modules: 1) Encapsulins that capture a molecular snapshot of the active transcriptome to reveal how yeast responds to stress. 2) Encapsulins as nanoreactors that shield sensitive enzyme cascades (and the host cell) from reactive intermediates such as hydrogen peroxide.
