Title: StellaCista: A Resource-Recycling Co-Culture Platform for Space Nutrition and Flavonoid-Based Wellness Description: Far from Earth, supplies dwindle. In The Martian, Mark Watney grows potatoes to survive. His ingenuity sparked our question: could astronauts also grow ingredients to support their health? StellaCista explores this possibility through a closed partnership between engineered cyanobacteria and yeast. Cyanobacteria use light to capture cabin CO₂ and supply sucrose to yeast, which uses this carbon and nitrogen recovered from treated wastewater to produce protein-rich biomass. Light-controlled pathways also enable yeast to produce candidate flavonoids for potential support against bone loss, sleep disturbances, and radiation-related damage. Both microbes contribute to nitrogen recovery, while space-adaptation and biosafety strategies support controlled operation. By turning recycled resources into nutritional support and on-demand products, StellaCista moves toward a living pharmacy for deep-space journeys. Wiki | Official Page
