<description>Title: BioThetis - Fighting invisible threats, creating visible change Description: BioThetis is an iGEM project addressing the global environmental challenge of PFAS pollution through the targeted extraction and degradation of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), one of the most pervasive and persistent ultra-short-chain “forever chemicals”. While TFA contamination is an emerging worldwide concern, this issue is also deeply rooted in our local reality: the Lyon metropolitan area is a significant hotspot for PFAS contamination, directly connecting this global crisis to our everyday environment. By developing a sustainable biological approach to remove and break down TFA, BioThetis aims to provide an eco-friendly solution to protect water resources, contribute to environmental health, and demonstrate how synthetic biology can respond to both international and local ecological emergencies.
