        <description>Title: MOSAIC: MOdular Scaffolds for Adhesive Implant Coatings Description: Medical implants suffer numerous complications: infections, aseptic loosening, poor tissue integration, and adverse immune responses, which delay healing and induce implant failure. Causes differ per implant type, location in the body, and patient characteristics. To prevent this, implants are coated; however, existing solutions cannot simultaneously address the various challenges. Our team is developing a modular platform for coatings custom-tailored to each patient. We use Elastin-Like Polypeptides (ELPs): synthetic proteins similar to human elastin, carrying functional motifs that fight bacterial infection, help cell attachment and growth, support tissue integration, and ease the immune response; as building blocks, from which manufacturers, guided by healthcare professionals, can compose multifunctional hydrogels with tuneable stiffness and functionalisation. In the process, we will build tools for easier ELP research, design, and production. Ultimately, this will move implant coatings from one-size-fits-all toward solutions shaped around the individual: with higher success rates, smoother recovery, and better patient outcomes.
